[music] >> the man accused of assaulting the san jose mayor security detail makes his first court appearance. and getting around the bay area may be difficult this weekend.

the closures impacting major freeways. >> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 7. >> hey, good morning. thanks so much for joining us here on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie lin. >> it's saturday. april 27th has get your day started with a look at the weather with dave sphar. good morning day. well, good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and the marine layer, really hasn't shown up too much for today. fairly clear skies to get things started. in fact, overnight. so allow those temperatures to fall. but it means a sunny afternoon for you both today. tomorrow up in those temperatures as we go into next week. here's a live shot of the east bay shoreline. >> just a few little bit of wave puppy cumulus off towards the distance. but on balance, we're pretty clear and even looking good at the coast, too. now upstream, there's yet another system that wants to play out and it may spray us with some scattered clouds. most importantly, maybe a little bit of the sunday, but we're still going continue to warm. it looks like through the period winds will also pick up. that will be later today. but right now they're

single digits to com. not a big issue here, but the numbers there fairly chilly in the 40's up in the north bay and some of the 40's for tri valley. looks like 52 for hayward. 51 san jose. and there's a contrast by some half-a-dozen degrees or better behind the numbers from yesterday. again, lots of those clear skies and our dry air temperature check for a 60 by 11 at to do about 67 and plenty of 70's on early next week. so another warming trend coming your more on that in a bit. stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. >> if you plan heading out the door this weekend, there are several closures affecting bay area freeways and public transportation. that includes southbound 6.80, in the pleasanton area. kron four's dan thorn has more on what we need to know. >> a lot of work happening this weekend along 6.80, southbound about a nine-mile stretch between pleasanton and seminole is going to be seeing some road repairs. and caltrans says if you're going to be traveling through the area this weekend, be prepared for traffic and detours.

>> 6.80, southbound from the 5.80, connector down to coop in road is now closed through early monday morning. caltrans says crews will be replacing deteriorating roadway with new pavement and they're hoping to get a lot done. and just a short amount of time over the weekend. >> we're going to do all this work and what this is the benefit of this weekend work is that we're reducing about 40 nights of work into just 3 days. but the work also means slow driving and detours signs will be posted along the freeway. >> and the highway patrol will be helping to keep traffic moving along. the detour is listed by caltrans pushes most affected drivers heading south to 8.80. you can take 24 or 5.80 and continue along. but if you're coming from farther east past livermore, you can take 84 and reconnect on to 6 ad. caltrans says travelers through this area should give themselves extra time as

everyone tries to get around asking folks to get into please pack their we understand that. obviously this is >> never a good time to close. a major highway for the work is definitely needed. >> goal is to have all this work wrapped up by 04:00am on monday. again, this is only affecting the southbound lanes of 6 ad, but caltrans says the work begins next month on the northbound lanes along 6.80, southbound. dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> the westbound lanes of highway 37 in vallejo also closed for repairs this weekend. drivers are asked to use highway 29 in highway 12 as a detour. this is the second weekend in a row part of highway 37 is shut down. the road is expected to reopen for the morning commute on monday. no bart service is a reminder that bart service is suspended this weekend between rockridge station in oakland and the lafayette station. the transit agency is upgrading one of its tracks. a free bus passes are available at

impacted. station's sparked says to expect about a 20 minute delay. and the sausalito ferry remains closed this weekend. more than a week ago, an inspection revealed part of the pier affairs spokesperson said repairs may take some time since they can only happen during low tide golden gate ferry hopes to have sausalito service back up and running sometime next week in the meantime, a transit bus will take passengers across the golden gate bridge. 2 of the 4 victims killed in that deadly crash in pleasanton were under the age of 15. that crash happened wednesday night. this is video of the aftermath in the area of foothill road just south of stoneridge drive the crash happening, right where the road switches from 2 lanes to one. investigators say it appeared that the car swerved off the road crashed into a light pole and then hit a tree. authorities say speed may have been a factor in this crash. a family is remembering the life of a 6 year-old boy

who died in a dui crash enrichment on the alvarez junior was traveling with 4 p other people last wednesday when a drunk driver crashed into their car. police say they have arrested the driver responsible. the men got into a fight with a police officer protecting the san jose mayor can stay out of jail until his next court appearance. kron four's jack moment was the reporter wh caught that fight on camera. >> wesley pollard is the name of the man at the center of that video from downtown san jose. that seemingly spread across the nation like wildfire and the judge today here in downtown san jose ordered him to be released until his next court date. but that wasn't the case throughout the day. judge actually originally wanted to keep him in the video that started it all. >> have several minutes of a man fighting a plainclothes san jose police officer who was serving as the mayor's security detail. wesley pollard was arrested and charged with battery. disturbing the peace and threatening an officer. at

first the judge seemingly wanted to keep pollard in jail based on his reading of the police report. but after viewing kron four's video, he appeared change his stance. granted pollard conditional release pollack. argued potter does not have a violent past and was trying to actually get away from the undercover officer. i was shaking my head a lot and there's a lot of mistakes made. john allen, the vice president with the san jose naacp says the officer's conduct surrounding the arrest should be investigated and that pollard was profiled against, you know, to arrest prosecute him for exercising right? the naacp sent a letter to san jose police department requesting an investigation. san jose pd sent us a statement in response saying the officer repeatedly stated he was an officer. the naacp says they never heard that in the video which recorded the entire fight. it would have been de-escalated by the officer identified himself early on and the interaction. >> at least what i saw that didn't have the mayor's office

tells us they stand by the officers decisions and they are certain more details will come from the san jose police department. >> some of those conditions of release include staying 300 yards away from city hall mayor matt mahan and that san jose police officer that was acting as mahan security detail at the time. now, speaking of city hall, i did talk to a few people on the inside who say that they do recognize pollard. they actually tell me that he has threatened them before. >> for now, we're in downtown san jose. jack moment from 4 news. >> senate candidate adam schiff had his car broken into while visiting san francisco kron four's lezla gooden reports. >> adam ship is currently running to fill the late senator dianne feinstein, senate seat and was in san francisco making several appearances. he was dining at the thing restaurant when his r% luggage was stolen while his car was parked and a downtown parking garage, his luggage allegedly in view on facebook. the democratic congressman posted this picture at the restaurant and a hiking best,

which is a more casual look than what he's typically seen. it. we reached out to the san francisco police department about the theft and they tell us there's no report related to this incident, according to sfpd crime data vehicle, property theft is down by 58% from this time last year and a good thing. kuz kuz ellen stopping them from from from. >> continue to do it. >> a trend that jt auto repair says they have noticed define the last had >> and cars come in for for when the repairs? well, we've got a lot a lot of cars coming in for best of before. but but now we don't see any haven't seen any for since the beginning of the year. >> plus, getting kron 4 news. well, today is national prescription drug. take back day, an annual pushed by federal and local authorities to save lives and prevent drug abuse for stephanie justice is live for us now in lafayette this morning with the details on this. good morning, tiffany.

>> good morning, stephanie. yesterday is today to get rid of those needed prescription drugs starting at 10 o'clock this morning, all the way until 02:00pm this afternoon. we are at the lafayette police department. one of many locations where people can come in on a muscly and drop off their unneeded prescription drugs. law enforcement teaming up with the dea to encourage people to move those unneeded prescription drugs from your homes, they say removing these unneeded drugs can help prevent medication misuse. they also say this is anonymous anonymous disposal of your medication to show up and dropping off. there are 99 locations, sites in northern california. the central valley, california attorney general rob bonta also urging californians to participate in this according to the california overdose surveillance dashboard. there are over 7,300 opiod opioid overdose related deaths in the

help drive a bit of a leftover onshore wind. it's a little bit of mother nature's air-conditioner. so this is going to that chilly breeze pick. if you're in the bay or the coast, you really feel a little it will. even though the sun's out and everything will be that that chilly breeze, you're going to get less. so as you're inland, this may potentially spur us with some clouds as we get into tomorrow, potentially. now east bay shoreline looking pretty sweet as well. i checked the coast are looking good, half moon bay, but some again, some puppy cumulus hang around temperature check that we are. but in the cool side because of the clear skies overnight, we see 40's up north. meanwhile, 52 antioch, we've got 52 hayward 50 for san jose and 51 for san francisco. futurecast full of all of this. whatever marine layer we have mixes out very nicely, not even much activity in the mountains at that. yes, we do see kind of some scattered clouds working here. that's mostly the low level moisture. however, it's the moisture aloft. it's sometimes a bit more problematic because once we get the sun up, we can make set out. this is monday at 04:00am. and you can see we didn't have too much intrusion through the weekend from some

cloud cover and then comes the warming phase early next week. there. we're looking wednesday to be the warmest day in the bunch. here's the pop of winds that they tend happen in the afternoon hours here onshore very low early. so that really doesn't next. mixing job keeps temperatures artificially behind at the coast, even on the east bay shoreline inland, a little bit better warming. you'll see that in the 4 zone forecast and then for tomorrow, the pop here as well. it's most pointed along the coast and a little bit off through the quirkiness straight in the solano county. again, somewhat typical. so a few scattered clouds left over, but nice. 70 ish around the bay today. tomorrow, since 70 near the bay. but 70 ish as you go more inland, i'ts sorry and then inland. it was in the 70's there. okay. got to base their. it's not you. it's me sunny and warming into early next week. we're looking at wednesday to be the warmest day at about 80 will be inland around the bay. going to see some of those mid 70's working here. then late in the week, sunny, not as warm, retreating back to the mid 70's latest model run say next weekend

have signs, food and music. it looks like they're here for the long haul calling for a cease-fire in gaza. >> the mood was relaxed with music friday afternoon inside what's being called the people's university for gaza around. 25 tents set up by students at stanford university to protest the war in gaza. they don't have working university. >> you could make that happen. they have left. >> the tense formed after hundreds gathered for a rally at the university thursday afternoon. one of the organizers, young soo kim says demonstrators are asking the university to disclose any investments that 8 israel in the war. basically asking us make specific targeted cost for divestment without. >> revealing and you the make it even possible target in according to the university around 60 students camping out at white memorial plaza were handed side letters thursday night. >> notifying them that tense

and overnight camping violate university policy. a statement from stanford university president richard saller saying in part, quote, these letters informed students that failure to seize conduct in violation of university policy. >> would result in a referral to the office of community standards, student conduct process and also can result in arrest if laws are violated. the students were also warned that their participation could result in suspension. arrests have been made at other university protests. what students at stanford say they plan to stay at the newly formed camping site until the right now we're exercising our free speech to condemn genocide. >> the university was the final not ground. that's a losing battle for i've noticed several sheriff's vehicles parked in the area driving around stanford university. >> as well as security guards, campus security guards around the 10 site here at white memorial plaza. they are not interacting with demonstrators. only monitoring the situation reporting at

stanford university. bob has been kron. 4 news. >> the cease-fire demonstrations continue around the world. this video is from off the university of oxford where nancy pelosi spoke just yesterday. university student got up in front of her and held up a palestinian flag interrupting her speech. police arrested 3 women in connection to an armed robbery spree that spanned over 7 months. investigators believe the suspects are connected to 11 east bay robberies, spending from august last year to february this year the women were arrested on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and kidnapping the fbi. and u.s. marshals joined with local police in the arrest effort. now u.s. citizens as students should or other could soon be allowed to vote in school elections at san francisco city college supporters say this gives more students a

voice in how their school is managed. qualifying students would need to be at least 18 at a city resident to cast their vote. school leaders passed the measure now heads to the citywide ballot through the san francisco board of supervisors. in concord, hundreds of costco customers were told to evacuate friday after a chemical leak. this was the scene around 05:00pm all entrances to the store were blocked off after what officials say was a refrigerant leak. the chemical fluid is used in air conditioning systems and heat pumps. fire officials say a store workers noticed the leak when someone spotted a white cloud drifting through the store. the business reopen later that night. no one was hurt. your money? this morning, new inflation numbers show the cost of many essentials remain high for consumers. our washington correspondent jessi tenure looks at what's driving inflation levels. >> inflation is stubborn. the government says prices rose at an annual rate of 2.7% last month. just a bit higher than

the month before inflation remains persistent and unacceptably high mark hamrick with bankrate says one of the sticking points is health care costs which make up about a 5th of the economy. hamrick says unexpected trips to the doctor often hurt consumers the most that can really be damaging to their personal finances. vincent climb out with the colorado division of insurance says the cost of owning a car from insurance to repairs is also driving inflation to do anything. >> you need a car. and so that's going to impact people. inflation has been a constant headache for the federal reserve. it's tried to slow price increases with higher interest rates. the fed would like to begin reducing interest rates if they thought they had essentially permission from inflation to do so. but they do not. hamrick says the new report means the fed will likely not cut interest rates until september at the earliest betting on that at this point is probably something that would require long odds. but

building there went up in flames. this was near the intersection of lying and clay streets. crew say nobody was inside this building. that was being renovated. the cause of the fire is under investigation. in oakland, the restaurant for barbecue is officially back open after a devastating fire fans across the bay area came out to support the new downtown location. >> the fire took a lot out of us. you know, i mean, those are flash and location actually celebrate. not 3 years there and then be able to open back up the bill to serve barbecue. what it's about still bringing about family and only feel from the old the new just be a great heart. you know, the community makes me emotional, man. i'm just grateful people showing up >> a few things did survive that fire, including the restaurant's michelin bib gourmand award and the american flag gifted to shift one by a texas pitmaster both now on display at the new location on 8th and broadway.

get you started this half hour with a look at your forecast with dave spahr. good morning. day. a good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. and not a bad start to the day. a little bit on the chilly side. you know, that's what you get with the clear skies and dry air, less marine layer to kinda in deal with in the morning hours. we get more sunshine. so >> we're getting the payback now. and that means a nice warming trend. we expect to continue all the way to the middle of next week. this the picture that we have right now in terms of what's going on, we do have a last-minute system that wants to play out. this may throw us some potential cloud cover over the next 48 hours. but as far as anything more substantial than that, just a continuation of the onshore winds, we're not going to have really much more impact sfo, looking clear as a bell this morning, no delays being reported out there. even construction wise last check. winds are kind of variable, but they will be kind of committed to the onshore direction as we the day progresses. that's both today and tomorrow. little chilly up north there. lot of 40's hanging on there. but 15, a battle already. 53 san francisco tri valley still looking at the 40's. and here's the big contrast. i

san ramon police department was one of several law enforcement agencies assisting the california highway patrol's organized retail theft task force to break it up. we definitely want to help alleviate some of the criminal element within our communities. fencing means the illegal resale of stolen goods. and in this case, investigators recovered $326,000 worth of stuff. the investigation began last september in san mateo county. >> when sheriff's deputies arrested several people linked to retail theft in the area. >> just 2 months later, san ramon, police sergeant deserve all the says his department linked to women to that retail theft ring after they were arrested again for stealing from a local. so for >> taking off the fence and operations and discovering them also the trickle down effect would also hopefully deter some of the criminal element from hitting a retail establishments that 3 agencies obtain search warrants for 2 oakland homes in a storage container where they found the

items and made one arrest last week. the has been returned back to the retailers from the ones we were able identify. >> the task force helped them. actually spearheaded that operation in san ramon, philippe djegal, all kron. 4 news. >> on friday, law enforcement across the state honored one of their own oakland police officer jordan wingate passed away over the weekend. a public memorial service happened friday morning at 3 crosses church in castro valley. in 2018 wingate was named rookie of the year by the oakland police officers association. while on-duty he was seriously injured in a car crash. he spent the last 6 years of his life are on life support in hospital rather until he died last saturday. wingate was 28 years >> a son, a brother, a family member, a friend, a talented police officer with a bright future with so much more to accomplish and so much more to humanity. nudge or described

asking for a recall is hoping county supervisors set an election date during next tuesday's meeting. now that enough signatures have been verified. area, tested positive for west nile contra costa county officials say the virus was found in a dead crow in concord earlier this month is the county's first case of the year. officials in alameda, san mateo and santa clara counties also reported positive cases to reduce the risk of spread. officials say residents should dump standing water that can collect and toys tools and pit bulls left outdoors. the family of a man left in a coma for the last 20 days is suing east bay regional park. police and attorney for the family says officers approached deontay fines on at martin luther king junior regional shoreline park because his car had expired tags. police say fines on tried to run off. he ended up in the water and that's when the family's attorney says officers taste buys on and he went unconscious. and advisory

council has been visiting oakland high schools this week as kron four's dan kerman reports students are getting the tools needed to avoid being caught up in trafficking. >> friday, students taking part in a resource fair. oakland's reds stale high school were not only getting college and career advice but learning how to avoid being caught up in teen trafficking. >> we are seeing lots and lots of cases of child trafficking and even more so children are on the internet and social media now more than ever post pandemic. >> nola brantley is a survivor and a member of the mayor's advisory council on human trafficking. she says kids as young as 12 are being manipulated or forced into having in return for money or gifts. >> are you 2 are part of the foster care and you adjust. the systems are more impacted by by other the other youth because the lack of supervision and care they receive. brantly says members of mayor tells advisory

seminole is going to be seeing some road repairs. and caltrans says if you're going to be traveling through the area this weekend, be prepared for traffic and detours. >> 6.80, southbound from the 5.80, connector down to coop in road is now closed through early monday morning. caltrans says crews will be replacing deteriorating roadway with new pavement and they're hoping to get a lot done and just a short amount of time over the weekend. >> we're going to do all this work and what this is the benefit of this weekend work is that we're reducing about 40 nights of work into just 3 days. but the work also means slow driving and detours signs will be posted along the freeway. >> and the highway patrol will be helping to keep traffic moving along. the detour is listed by caltrans pushes most affected drivers heading south to 8.80. you can take 24 or 5.80 and continue along. but if you're coming from farther east past livermore, you can

lafayette station. the transit agency is upgrading one of its tracks for buses are available at impacted stations. barf says to expect about a 20 minute delay. and the sausalito ferry remains closed this weekend. more than a week ago, inspection revealed damages on part of the pier affairs spokesperson said repairs may take some time since they can only happen during low tide golden gate ferry hopes to have sausalito service back up and running sometime next week in the meantime, a transit bus will take passengers across across the golden gate bridge. and 2 of 4 victims killed in that deadly crash in pleasanton were under the age of 15. it happened wednesday night. this is video of the aftermath in the area of foothill road just south of stoneridge drive the crash happening, right where the roads, which is from 2 lanes to one. investigators say it appears the car swervedh off the road crashed into a light pole and then hit a tree. authorities say speed may have been a factor in this crash. a family is remembering the life of a 6 year-old boy who died in a dui crash

enrichment on the day. alvarez junior was traveling with 4 other people last wednesday when a drunk driver crashed into their car. police say they have arrested the driver responsible. the man who got into a fight with the police officer protecting the san jose mayor can stay out of jail until his next court appearance. kron four's jack moment was the reporter who caught that fight on camera. >> wesley pollard is the name of the man at the center of that video from downtown san jose. that seemingly spread across the nation like wildfire and the judge today here in downtown san jose ordered him to be released until his next court date. but that wasn't the case throughout the day. judge actually originally wanted to keep in the video that started it all. >> have several minutes of a man fighting a plainclothes san jose police officer who was serving as the mayor's security detail. wesley pollard was arrested and charged with battery. disturbing the peace and threatening an officer. at first the judge seemingly

wanted to keep pollard in jail based on his reading of the police report. but after viewing kron four's video, he appeared change his stance. granted pollard conditional release paul argued potter does not have a violent past and was trying to actually get away from the undercover officer. i was shaking my head a lot and there's a lot of mistakes made. john allen, the vice president with the san jose naacp says the officer's conduct surrounding the arrest should be investigated and that pollard was profiled against, you know, to arrest prosecute him for exercising right? the naacp sent a letter to san jose police department requesting an investigation. san jose pd sent us a statement in response saying the officer repeatedly stated he was an officer. the naacp says they never heard that in the video which recorded the entire fight. it would have been de-escalated by the officer identified himself early on and the interaction. >> at least what i saw all that didn't have. the mayor's office tells us they stand by the officers decisions and

sunglass hut are among the retailers victimized by a fencing operation that was running out of oakland. the san ramon police department was one of several law enforcement agencies assisting the california highway patrol's organized retail theft task force to break it up. we definitely want to help alleviate some of the criminal element within our communities. fencing means the illegal resale of stolen goods. and in this case, investigators recovered $326,000 worth of stuff. the investigation began last september in san mateo county. >> when sheriff's deputies arrested several people linked to retail theft in the area. >> just 2 months later, san ramon, police sergeant deserve all the says his department linked to women to that retail theft ring after they were arrested again for stealing from a local. so for taking off the fence and operations and discovering them >> it also the trickle down effect would also hopefully deter some of the criminal element from hitting a retail

course, a lot of fresh right now. this time of year, we have so many fresh ingredients. i love to cook seasonally and a fun one for everybody, adults and kids. our mike caprese salad cucumbers and they're fun especially for doing a picnic, their finger food that they're worried about the potential exists. like an easy cleanup, right? exactly. so i'm going to show you how i make in this poll. i already have the cup elements. we've got our mozzarella tomatoes and some fresh basil. and to this, i'm just going to add a little bit of a bus, a mic and a little bit of extra virgin olive oil just for some flavor. and what you do is i'd like to use for this recipe. i really like to use an english cucumber and this is an english cucumber. and the reason i like to use this one is because you can leave the skin on it. it's it's edible. it's not as so i like to use that. and then they just took my spoon and i hollowed it out. so i have a nice little area that i can

put. it shows yes. and so i can stuff it with this caprese and you've got all these great flavors in here. yeah. and you know something like i said, the best part is you don't even need utensils. and while you may be setting up the picnic, people can go ahead and help themselves to one. like i said, you can sit there into that. that's great. and then, of course, always a little parmesan cheese out she's extra cheese. say why so little extra parmesan here with that delicious, fresh and look at how easy that is to make. is a wet. so yeah, that's great. but now we have also a salad and i was always good for picnics and i have mediterranean salad. its chick pea based richards protein. so it's kind of that i'm a start with a base spinach. you to like a rookie i do. i do. and spinach is well, ok, so you can use either one, actually, if you want to do romain

whatever you like, the best part of this salad is there's a lot of ingredients, but you can pick and choose what you want to put in. because guess what? there's no recipe. police. there's no recipe jail you can make this your own. so i have the spinach in there and my chickpeas, if you want to help me, yeah, we're going to put our red onion for some crunch and of great color. and then i'm also going to add some cherry tomatoes. and if you could ask you cumber because these are all wearing mediterranean based type of ingredients and would you like to source your ingredients for your? i love to go to the farmers market. i love to go to my farmers market that perfect and right now i go on thursdays sundays and they really have everything you need fresh and ready to go. i love to support our farmers california. and of course, our farmers markets are just so much fun to go. hang around with you. so i have my column on all of to and simple. you

can put everything together. and then, of course, you know, i like to make my own dressings. we talked about. yeah, i'm your honor. i i love that. you do that because you know exactly what goes into them. no preservatives, you know, and that's really important. yeah, right. we don't want to do that. and because this is a vinocur. if i have white wine vinegar and i also have extra virgin olive oil and to make it kind of that mediterranean flair had reagan now and a little bit of parsley. great. and i'm in a little bit of lemon juice. keep it nice and bright and fresh and i put it in, you know, a container like this where you can just shake it. and again, this doesn't need to be refrigerated. once you take it out to pack it. yeah. you really don't need to like win. it's more of a, you milk-based or cream based or something like paste you want to keep that refrigerate. so this is great for picnics. so then i'm just going to put that on it. and i like to

that's it. and i just put it in there into my hand. and i think for about 18 minutes because we want to have a little crest on it for so it doesn't get soggy. yeah, long at all. that was super easy. and it can just really in a mic and you're just a bowl. you mix and the mix. and yeah, and then we have the filling and this is just it's a little bit of flour. a lot of juice in here from my fresh lemons. now i have a lemon tree at i can pick my lemons whenever i but of course, you know, you can get them at the farmers market and then there's sugar in here because we want to make the sweet. yeah. and right. and then we just port right over this beautiful and the x will help make this, you know, really light and it will pass out beautifully. and because we're going to add some we just sprinkle it in the top like and guess what? this only cooks for about 20 minutes. and again, once you make it, you just let it cut

been a factor in the crash. a family is remembering the life of a 6 year-old boy who died in a dui crash enrichment on the alvarez junior was traveling with 4 other people last wednesday when a drunk driver crashed into their car. police say they have arrested the driver responsible. the man who got into a fight with a police officer protecting the san jose mayor can stay out of jail until his next court appearance. kron four's jack moment was the reporter who caught the fight on camera. >> wesley pollard is the name of the man at the center of that video from downtown san jose. that seemingly spread across the nation like wildfire and the judge today here in downtown san jose ordered him to be released until his next court date. but that wasn't the case throughout the day. judge actually originally wanted to keep him in the video that started it >> have several minutes of a man fighting a plainclothes san jose police officer who was serving as the mayor's security detail. wesley

pollard was arrested and charged with battery. disturbing the peace and threatening an officer. at first the judge seemingly wanted to keep pollard in jail based on his reading of the police report. but after viewing kron four's video, he appeared change his stance. granted pollard conditional release paul argued potter does not have a violent past and was trying to actually get away from the undercover officer. i was shaking my head a lot and there's a lot of mistakes made. john allen, the vice president with the san jose naacp says the officer's conduct surrounding the arrest should be investigated and that pollard was profiled against, you know, to arrest prosecute him for exercising right? the naacp sent a letter to san jose police department requesting an investigation. san jose pd sent us a statement in response saying the officer repeatedly stated he was an officer. the naacp says they never heard that in the video which recorded the entire fight. it would have been de-escalated by the officer identified himself early on and the interaction.

>> ceasefire demonstrations continue around the world. this video is from the university of oxford where nancy pelosi spoke yesterday. a university student got up in front of her and held up a palestinian flag interrupting her speech. police arrested 3 women in connection to armed robbery spree that spanned over 7 months. investigators believe the suspects are connected to 11 east bay robberies spending from august last year to february this year the women were arrested on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and kidnapping the fbi. and u.s. marshals joined with local police in the arrest effort. u.s. citizen students could soon be allowed to vote in school. the actions at san francisco city college supporters say this gives more students a voice in how their school is managed qualify. students would need to be at least 18 and a city resident to cast their vote. school

morning. and good morning all. here's a quick view. what's going on? yosemite while we're at a 2 to some high cloudiness, just a touch here. but it looks like a nice weekend. lot of folks are kind of headed up there for the weekend to get maybe a different flavor of what it's like up in the mountains, not quite in the summer short sleeve shirts, weather. no, no, no, but a little bit warmer than they've experienced. so we're having this transition a little bit. we do see some upper 50's at work here, 60 coming by tuesday. and that will only build middle of the week. now we do have what i say. he bomb not a heat spike. that's good news. we don't want to getting too warm because we get too much melting in too much water flowing into the rivers. futurecast for is relatively uneventful. do want to point out those some mid-level cloudiness. we may get from that low up to the northwest sunday. looks pretty good except for the morning marine layer. we always have to contend with just a bit. but turning into mostly sunny skies into the afternoon. here's the pop of wind. that's most apparent across the golden gate in cortina straight. also the coast both today and also tomorrow. so watch out. that will be some extra cooling for you.

meanwhile, the longer range forecast once that low plays out, it's the high pressure that's a control he bumped. thank you. up to about 80 or so middle of the week towards the end. it breaks down and we'll see what the moisture that remains at that point models. little bullish on this for now, but they can change their tune. we get a little closer here. 4 zone forecast for you today. 62 san francisco, but only in the 50's. plus those onshore winds. so chilly at the coast. 63 burlingame foster city. 65 66 to palo alto, the santa clara at 69, 70 is for campbell. and also morgan hill. 68 for cupertino, east bay shoreline, upper 60's, which we see much the same for parts of tri valley. but around 71 for walnut creek and 72 concord. 64 berkeley. what 67 73 for fairfield. so it's a battle with the upper 60's and lower 70's for today. at least 73 going on for santa rosa. here's a longer range forecast for you up to about 80 or so come wednesday and this is still going to be kind of a little bit of a work in progress. we'll put some

clouds and for now. but that may turn wetter as we get to the weekend. stephanie. all right, drew, thanks. >> any of our next guest was getting ahead of myself there? thank you, dave. well, is an american and pacific islander heritage month is just around the corner a time when we celebrate and highlight the accomplishments of our vibrant api community. the korean american community foundation of san francisco is marking the moment with a special gala. and joining us live now to share more is executive director drew pat. good morning to you, drew. good morning, stephanie. thank you for having me. of course. and by the way, go bairstow graduated from cal. >> want get your thoughts. first you know, tell us a bit about the organization. yeah. >> the korean american community foundation of san francisco was founded 10 years and the idea was to build up that spirit of philanthropy in the korean american community and also make connections between the great organizations that are already doing the work and individuals who want to support the cause

and help people on it. and so you and i were talking during the commercial break >> you're telling me that sometimes there there's a there's a large group of korean american to actually overlooked when we think about korean culture in the bay area. yeah, >> they're 2.6 million koreans in america 90,000 of them are in the bay area alone. so there's there's a sizable population, but we have set large segments that are being left behind in really suffering in our senior community has grown 69% over the last 10 years. we have large portion that are the poverty and about a 20 to 30% are considered low income. so without the language skills without the access to they really suffered during difficult times like covid or the rise in asian hate the inflation that we're seeing today. well, and where these

groups largely living in the bay they're they're spread out throughout the bay area. and and throughout northern california, there's a senator and sacramento as >> so tell us a bit about how your organization is working connect these groups with the resources that they yeah. so as we reach out to individuals too, teach them and help them learn about flat flatter p and how they can apply to their lives. we're also reaching out to organizations are grantee over the last 10 years. we've worked with 43 different organizations. they each have very special innovative programs that are. i'm helping people directly so i can give a couple of examples for korean community center of the east bay. they operate a screen. the bay area korean information line. so that's a phone line that korean speaking. agents who can answer basic questions to help people access the government's safety net programs that are already available. but just

out of reach for these people because of language or because of economics or transportation or or so that program has helped thousands people's over the over the years was especially important during covid and it continues today. so they've actually increased their capacity to cover things like domestic violence, which is also a in our community. so programs like that for women shelter that actually provides resources and training 2 other to him help address that. crisis of domestic violence on it. for folks who are watching this, they're learning about these different organizations learn about your organization about this. >> a demographic of people who are really in need of support. how can the public really reach out and help? there. >> there are multiple we offer

volunteer opportunities for people who want get involved. there's also educational resources and we have special next week. we have our annual gala at the khan a gallon which is actually that means one in korean. so we're trying to bring together people and organizations and businesses that all address these critical needs got and we are showing video of the gallup is from previous years. and quite a few people show to this. we expect 500 next weekend at the ritz there are still a few tickets left and people want to go to our but it's a it's a great opportunity to celebrate the work that we've done over the past 10 years. and this is our 10th anniversary but it's for haha. but it's also like i'm looking at the next 10 years, like what can we do in the next 10 years to to really shore this community and their make sure that we make that last mile connection between the people who need the help

all that it looks really sweet with stephanie. y ah. seeing get out and enjoy all of that. >> you know, just pace yourself. the only thing i watch out for you to have those onshore winds. but that fort mason is on the side of the bay side. so it's over the peninsula know that are the land. so you won't have as much of the intrusion with this. but yeah, we've got that's nicky loh up north. but if you can cut a look at the patterns here, what's going on as we change seasons, everything is shifting north solve these lows of the gulf of alaska, blah, blah. we talk about well, they're going to be now heat busters. they're going to break the back of the heat spikes that we get. so will like those in the future. but right now we're in transition, by the way, back to those winds onshore here you have them right through the car. key to straight. that's what's going to be most apparent and along the coast. elsewhere, readings will probably be may be up to the 20. so it will be a chilly breeze with the program. just a little take away with that. as far as the actual highs are concerned, there's the warming that you can see happening in london for now. 72 going on all the way out there to antioch. meanwhile, up to the north bay, we've got 60's and
